The Coast Guard coordinated the rescue of two overdue fishermen in Port Frederick near Hoonah with the Hoonah Volunteer Fire Department Saturday. Eric Larson, 20, and Frankie Brown Jr., 20, residence unknown, were reported overdue from their fishing trip after they missed their scheduled trip to Juneau aboard the Ferry Leconte. The men had reportedly left Hoonah Harbor at 12 p.m. and were scheduled to return at 4 p.m. but never showed up.

A 47-year Everett man who was arrested in Texas was sentenced to five years in federal prison Friday for failing to register as a sex offender. Police in Forward Township have charged a man who they said was drinking and scratching off lottery tickets while his 9-year-old daughter waited alone outside the bar. Police issued a statement Saturday afternoon, indicating that William Eric Hoover was charged with one count each of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person. According to witness accounts, police said Hoover was inside Molnar's Lounge on Route 51 for more than an hour and a half.
